Welcome to our UnitThe following is the welcoming letter in a packet of material provided to new members:
ACBL Unit 503
Welcome as a new member of Palo Alto Bridge Unit 503! We are delighted to have you on board. As Membership Chairman, I would like to commend some resources the Unit provides which will keep you up to date on current activities as well as help you find partners, bridge lessons, etc. Included in this packet is a copy of the Kibitzer, our monthly newsletter. The last page of this newsletter is invaluable. It provides all the information for each game: day, types of games, times, and directors. If no location is listed in the Place/Other Info column, it means that game is held at the Bridge Center. Also, be sure to check out the SPECIAL EVENTS section which lists unique Club activities as well as nearby Sectional and Regional events. Once a month, on a Sunday, we have a Unit Game which provides extra points to the winners; and, we provide a section for folks who have less than 50 Master Points. (Sometimes these special games are over-subscribed, so be sure to sign up in advance on the sheet on Club Bulletin Board if you intend to play in one of these games.) We also hold a SWISS game on the first Monday of every month for teams of players with less than 50 Master Points, average. Another great source of information is the Unit 503 website: www.paloaltobridge.com. There is a wealth of information there. You will find your game results posted on our website and, for most games, you’ll also see the hand record for the game. All the Kibitzers are online as well. Go to “Other” and click on Bridge Links which will turn up Bridge Games On-Line and more. From Bridge links continue to Miscellaneous Sites, and Bridge Clues by Mike Lawrence which is one my favorites for a daily taste of bidding and playing problems. Also included in this packet is a copy of the most recently published Unit 503 Directory of Members and Friends. Lastly, I am including a gift certificate for one free play with a value of $8.00, which can be presented to the director of any Unit 503 game. I wish you great cards and lots of fun. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to call me at home (650) 321-9522. I look forward to meeting you at the tables.
Sincerely, Lu IsaacsMembership Chairman |
